Heather Born

ALTO | BCM Post-Doc | Lake Zurich, IL

Year joined: 2009

Bio:

Born and raised in the Northwest Chicago suburbs, Heather's breakthrough singing engagement was her fourth grade solo at the church Christmas performance. Afterwards, she abandoned the fame and acclaim for scientific pursuits and eventually went to Michigan State University for college (where she spent one unsatisfying semester in the Women's glee club and realized she vastly preferred co-ed groups). She moved to Houston to get her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at BCM, where she also met her fiance (after all, where else are scientists going to meet each other?). After hearing friends talking about starting up Docapella, she invited herself to practice and has been a part of the group ever since.

Music interests:
Indie Rock and Classical.

List of solos:

  • Britney Medley – Baby Hit Me One More Time

  • Ben Folds/Regina Spektor – You Don’t Know Me (w/ Phil)

  • Jason Mraz/Colbie Caillat – Lucky (w/ Regis)

  • Fun. – Some Nights/We Are Young (w/Sarah)

What led you to retire from time traveling?
I'm afraid that's classified information. <looks around nervously> If I told you, it might cause a disruption in the space-time continuum and destroy the world as we know it.

Zombies are at your door. What do you do?
Consult my in case of zombies planbook. Escape via the balcony with supplies and make my way to the Medical Center for shelter/supplies/most likely to have a working generator. Also, bring multiple strong blunt objects - not noisy like a gunshot and re-usable. Failing that, pretend like its first thing in the morning and try to blend in.

If your life had a theme song, what is it?
Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
